Legal industry and education is going through a crucial juncture wherein increasingly Indian law students are struggling to build their new skills in the aftermath of AI where data centres, climate, criminal justice, ESG, data protection have started to dominate the discussions. BCI has also directed law schools to build curriculum which trains law students for Blockchains, Electronic-Discovery, Cyber-Security, Environmental law, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Bio-Ethics etc.

Even though there are now more than 1800+ Indian law schools, most law schools and institutions are not understanding the rapid pace of the changing environment of the legal industry and the risk of automation of entry level jobs. This means law students, despite paying hefty fees for their legal education increasingly are not provided with the learning methods which can adapt for 21st century skills and hence emerging job markets. This is also building a crisis for the legal industry where severe lack of underpreparation by a majority of law schools mean becoming increasingly dependence dependent on a handful of law schools. This creates a big gap between what legal industry wants and what law schools are offering.
